Types of ankle brace

  • Elastic and slip-on: tubular supports such as the McDavid Elastic Slip-On Ankle Support add light compression for tired or sore ankles and fit easily into footwear.
  • Adjustable wraps: neoprene wraps you tighten yourself, including the Adjustable Neoprene Ankle Support and the McDavid Thermal Ankle and Strap.
  • Lace-up stabilisers: the ANAFORM Lace-Up Ankle Brace, McDavid Lightweight Laced Ankle Brace and BA Sports Lock Lace-up Ankle Guard use laces and outer straps for firmer support. The ANAFORM description lists figure-8 straps for medial, lateral and arch support.
  • Side stabilisers: the Ankle Brace with side stabilisers is latex free, adjustable and fits either ankle.

Moon boot and CAM walker boot options

A CAM walker boot, often called a moon boot, holds the foot and ankle still while an injury or surgery recovers. The range includes the Cam Walker Boot in short and long models, the Form-Fit Moon Boot Regular Walker, the Form-Fit Moon Boot AIR Walker with a built-in pump to adjust air pressure, and Pediatric Walker Boots for children. The Cam Walker and Form-Fit descriptions say they are worn for 6 to 8 weeks only while recovering, and should be kept away from sand, dirt and water. The Evenup Boot Equaliser is a shoe lift that helps even out the height difference while one foot is in a boot.

Plantar fasciitis splint and heel supports

The Plantar Fasciitis Night Splint is worn at night to keep the foot from curling, applying a gentle stretch to the plantar fascia and Achilles tendon. Its description lists adjustable straps, a toe wedge and a fit for either foot. For daytime, TULI'S The X Brace is an elastic plantar fasciitis splint alternative that can be worn with or without shoes. TULI'S heel cups, silicone heel spur pads and Lynco orthotics add cushioning or arch support inside your shoes. Healthdirect lists choosing supportive shoes among the ways to help prevent plantar fasciitis, and advises seeing your doctor if symptoms last longer than 8 weeks.

Toe, bunion and foot comfort

Gel products protect pressure points, including the Gel Bunion Guard, the Hallux Valgus Bunion Splint with Silicone Gel Pad, gel toe spreaders and TULI'S HAMMER RX Toe Straightener. For nail and skin care, see foot care.

This category also holds knee supports, calf sleeves and McDavid compression socks. The full ranges are under knee braces and compression socks, and forearm crutches sit with our crutches.

Healthdirect advises seeing a doctor or physiotherapist if a sprain or strain causes a lot of pain or is not improving within a week. To ask about sizing, call 1300 767 777 or visit the Liverpool showroom.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a moon boot and an ankle brace?
A moon boot, or CAM walker, is a rigid boot that holds the foot and ankle still and is worn for a set recovery period. An ankle brace sits inside your normal shoe and supports the joint while it still moves. Your GP or physiotherapist can tell you which one an injury needs.
How do I find the right size?
Sizing differs by product. The Form-Fit walkers use a US shoe size table, while many braces have their own size chart, and some fit either foot. Check the details on each product page, or call 1300 767 777 with your measurements so we can check the size before you buy.
Can I use NDIS funding for an ankle brace or walker boot?
Whether a brace or boot can be funded depends on your plan and is decided by the NDIA, not by Allcare. Ask your plan manager or support coordinator first, then call 1300 767 777 to talk about ordering.
