Spacetalk Life watch and Spacetalk watches for kids

The Spacetalk Life watch is a wrist-worn phone for older adults, and this range lists it next to two Spacetalk watches designed for children and the chargers, bands and screen protectors made for them. Everything here comes from one maker, summarised on our Spacetalk brand page. For help picking a model, call 1300 767 777 or email [email protected].

Spacetalk Life as an SOS watch for elderly people

Spacetalk Life is the model built for seniors. Spacetalk calls it a wearable safety device and lists four core features:

  • an SOS button
  • fall detection
  • a GPS locator
  • a 4G phone for calls

Beyond safety, the watch can show medication and appointment reminders, count steps and give a daily weather update. Healthdirect notes that carrying a personal alarm lets you call for help quickly if you fall, and a seniors smartwatch with fall detection keeps that alarm on the wrist instead of in a bag or drawer. Before relying on it, agree with family who will answer calls and alerts from the watch, and test the setup together.

A watch raises the alarm but does not stop a fall. Our falls prevention range covers other equipment for the home, and the fall prevention guide covers other changes around the home.

Spacetalk watches for children

Spacetalk Kids puts a mobile phone, a GPS tracker and a watch into one device. A parent picks the contacts it can call and receive calls from in the Spacetalk smartphone app, can see the watch's location on their own phone, and can set the SOS alert to ring them and other guardians. It comes in Pink, Grey and Teal, with a Telstra and a Vodafone version of each.

The Spacetalk Adventurer is the newer 4G model. Spacetalk lists a 5MP camera, an improved battery, a heart rate monitor, Bluetooth and an IP67 water resistance rating, and says it runs on every mobile network operator in Australia, virtual operators included. It is offered in Cloud, Coral, Ocean, Mist and Midnight.

Spacetalk chargers, bands and screen protectors

  • Spacetalk Kids Charging Kit: a magnetically coupled charging dock and a USB cable.
  • Spacetalk Kids Screen Protector Kit: two screen protectors, a wet and dry wipe and a soft cleaning cloth.
  • Spacetalk Adventurer Charging Stand Kit: a magnetically coupled stand and a USB cable.
  • Spacetalk Adventurer Screen Protector Kit: two screen protectors and wet and dry wipes.
  • Spacetalk Adventurer Band Strap: a silicone band without a metal clasp, sized for wrists from 125mm to 185mm around, in Midnight, Ocean, Coral and Mist.

The maker states that each accessory works with its own watch model only, so a Kids charger will not suit an Adventurer.

What a Spacetalk watch needs to run

Spacetalk Life and the Adventurer each take a Nano SIM card with calls, SMS and data, and all three watches rely on a Spacetalk app subscription, which is where contacts and settings live. The SIM and subscription are arranged separately from the watch, and Spacetalk publishes a list of recommended SIM providers.

Frequently asked questions

Which network does a Spacetalk Kids watch use?

Each Spacetalk Kids watch is tuned for one network: model IF-W515C for Telstra and model IF-W525C for Vodafone. Choose the version that matches the SIM provider you plan to use, as the two are sold separately in each colour. The Adventurer is not tied to one network in the same way.

Do picture messages from the watch cost extra?

They can. Spacetalk warns that some mobile providers charge for MMS messages on top of the basic plan. To avoid that, it suggests sending photos and other media between devices through the Chat message function in the app. Ask your SIM provider how MMS is billed before you choose a plan.
