Heel protectors and elbow protectors

A heel protector cushions or raises the heel so it is not pressed against the mattress for long periods. At Allcare Warehouse, the Heel & Elbow Protectors range includes a suspension boot, polymer and air pads, and sheepskin and silicone fibre protectors for both heels and elbows. Why heels and elbows need protection

Healthdirect lists the heels and elbows among the bony areas where pressure ulcers most often form. If the skin is red, blistered or broken, speak to a GP or nurse before choosing a product.

Heel protector boot options

A heel protector boot wraps the lower leg and foot. The Heelift Suspension Boot has a bevelled foam wedge under the calf so the heel is suspended, plus ventilation holes, a stiffened base and a low friction surface that slides over the mattress. It comes with an extra foam pad for added elevation, and its latex-free foam can be cut to suit. The SAF Heel Protector uses layers of gel permeated foam, also has a low friction surface and is machine washable.

Air and polymer heel pads

The ROHO Heel Pad uses adjustable, interconnected air cells and can be used at the heel or the elbow. It is supplied with a pump. The ACTION® Heel Protector is an AKTON® polymer pad sealed in waterproof film and held with a soft velcro strap, in one size.

Sheepskin heel protector and silicone fibre options

A sheepskin heel protector uses genuine medical sheepskin, whose soft pile lets air circulate to help keep skin dry. Ours have adjustable velcro straps, are machine washable and are sold as a pair. The silicone fibre version is filled with silicone coated hollow fibres to reduce friction, has a breathable cotton cover and is sold individually.

Elbow protector choices

An elbow protector comes in the same two materials: sheepskin, sold as a pair, and silicone fibre, sold individually. Both have adjustable velcro straps, are one size and are machine washable. The ROHO Heel Pad can also be used at the elbow.

The sheepskin and silicone fibre heel protectors and the SAF Heel Protector are described as machine washable, and the Heelift Suspension Boot's foam is described as machine washable too. The ROHO Heel Pad is described as easily cleaned. Check each product's care details before washing.
Are heel protectors sold in pairs?
It depends on the product. The sheepskin heel and elbow protectors are sold as a pair. The ROHO Heel Pad, ACTION® Heel Protector, SAF Heel Protector and silicone fibre protectors are sold individually, so order two if both heels need one.
Do I need advice before using a protector?

Can I buy these protectors with NDIS funding?
