Pulse oximeters

A pulse oximeter is a small device that estimates how much oxygen your blood is carrying and shows your pulse rate at the same time. Allcare Warehouse stocks fingertip and handheld models from Rossmax, MY and Heart Sure, along with replacement probes for Rossmax handheld units. A pulse oximeter is easy to use at home, but the reading is an estimate, so it works best as part of care your doctor oversees. The notes below compare the models we carry.

Why we don't display Prices ?

How a pulse oximeter works

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) explains that a pulse oximeter shines light through the skin, usually at the fingertip, and shows oxygen saturation as a percentage alongside pulse rate. The TGA also notes that readings can be affected by skin pigmentation, how well the device fits, blood flow to the fingers, nail polish and how the device is maintained. It says home use is safer and more effective as part of medical management overseen by a doctor.

Fingertip pulse oximeter models

A fingertip pulse oximeter clips onto one finger and gives a reading in seconds. Our range includes:

  • MY Pulse Oximeter Fingertip: a two-colour OLED screen with four display orientations, running on two AAA batteries.
  • Rossmax Fingertip Pulse Oximeter: Bluetooth syncing to the Healthstyle app, made for spot-checks on adults and children over 3.
  • Heart Sure Pulse Oximeter: a dual-colour OLED display with six display modes and a carry bag.
  • Rossmax OLED Display and Large Display models: one has a two-colour OLED screen and an audible alarm; the other has a big LED screen and one-touch on and off.
  • Rossmax ACT models: available with or without Bluetooth, with a visible and audible alarm on the standard model.

Handheld oximeter and probes

The Rossmax handheld model uses a separate finger probe on a cable. It has a backlit LCD, stores up to 288 readings, and lets you set alarm thresholds so it beeps when a reading falls outside them. Replacement Rossmax probes come in adult, paediatric, neonatal and tube styles, and each is listed as suitable for the Rossmax SA300, SA310 and SA210 units.

Tips for choosing

  • Choose a large, bright display if the user has low vision or will check readings at night.
  • Pick a Bluetooth model if you want readings saved to a phone to share with a doctor.
  • Choose a handheld model with probes if you need alarms or several probe sizes.
  • Remove nail polish and keep the hand still and warm while measuring.

Related equipment

Many people who use an oximeter also use respiratory equipment such as a nebuliser or oxygen concentrator; our respiratory equipment guide explains the options. You can browse other home medical devices, including blood pressure monitors, or read our overview of diagnostic devices.

Allcare Warehouse does not interpret readings. If a reading worries you, contact your doctor, or call triple zero (000) in an emergency.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between fingertip and handheld oximeters?
A fingertip model is a single unit that clips onto your finger, which makes it compact and simple for spot-checks. A handheld model has a separate probe on a cable, a larger screen, alarm settings and more memory, which suits regular monitoring or a care setting.
Are pulse oximeters suitable for children?
Some are. The Rossmax fingertip model is described by its maker for spot-checks on adults and children over 3. For babies and small children, Rossmax paediatric and neonatal probes are made for its handheld units. Ask your child's doctor which device and probe size to use.
Can I use NDIS funding for a pulse oximeter?
It depends on your plan and the decision of the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA), not on Allcare. We are a registered NDIS provider, so you can order from us whether your plan is self-managed, plan-managed or NDIA-managed. Check with your plan manager or support coordinator before you order.
