Home care beds

A home care bed gives someone who spends a lot of time in bed the adjustable positions of a hospital bed, in a frame that still looks like bedroom furniture. Allcare Warehouse stocks the Icare range of electric homecare beds, from simple two-function bases to premium four-function models, along with bariatric beds and static beds for a partner. Upholstered bases come in a choice of fabrics and vinyls, with matching headboards and footboards. Below is how the models differ and who each one suits.

Electric hospital beds for home

Most Icare home care beds are electric hospital beds for home use, and the models in the list below add functions as you move up the range. Head lift raises the backrest, knee break bends the bed under the knees so the user does not slide down, and high-low adjustment raises the whole bed so a carer can work without bending.

  • IC111: head lift and knee break in a domestic-looking base, with split queen and split king options
  • IC222: adds high-low, with 165mm of under-bed clearance for lifting hoists, in king single and long single
  • IC280: an extra high lift for easier care, plus the IC280P Petite, 1800mm long, for children and people of small stature
  • IC333: four functions with dual lift motors and unlimited under-bed clearance, with an extra long version adding 300mm for tall users
  • IC777: the premium four-function model, with a cordless remote and preset positions

Bariatric beds

A bariatric bed is built for a higher weight rating. The IC555 Bariatric Bed has a 300kg safe working load, comes in king single only and adds a vascular support position. The IC333 also carries 300kg in double and queen sizes. On Icare beds, the stated safe working load includes the mattress, so check the figure on each product page against the user's needs.

Companion beds and partner set-ups

Companion beds are in this range, so a partner or carer can sleep alongside.

  • Icare Companion: a static timber-framed bed with no moving parts, made to sit beside any Icare homecare bed
  • IC100 Static Partner Bed: a heavier-duty static base with a 200kg weight rating, lockable castors and compatibility with Icare rails and accessories
  • Partner Set-up: two Icare beds side by side with no gap between the mattresses, where each partner picks their own model and side

Matching the bed to the person

If falls are the main concern, compare the floorline models in our facility beds range. For users with limited hand movement, a joystick controller is available for the IC333 in our bed accessories, alongside side rails and bed sticks. The mattress matters as much as the frame, so look at our pressure mattresses too, and add an overbed table for meals and reading. Our bed buying guide and the wider care beds range can help you compare.

Buying with NDIS funding

Allcare Warehouse is a registered National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provider, and participants can order a home care bed whether their plan is self-managed, plan-managed or NDIA-managed. The NDIS lists adjustable beds as mid-cost assistive technology, which needs a recommendation from an assistive technology advisor, and funding decisions are made by the NDIA and your plan. Products are shown without prices: call 1300 767 777 or visit our Liverpool showroom to ask about a bed.

Frequently asked questions

What sizes do Icare home care beds come in?
Depending on the model, sizes run from long single and king single to double and queen, and the IC111 comes as split queen or split king. The IC280P Petite and the extra long IC333 cover smaller and taller users.
Do normal sheets fit an electric bed?
Ordinary fitted sheets can pull loose when the bed bends, so choose sheets made for adjustable beds. Icare sheet sets for adjustable beds are in our bedding range.
Can a home care bed be used with a hoist?
Several models leave room underneath for a mobile hoist base. The IC222 has 165mm of under-bed clearance and the IC333 has unlimited under-bed clearance. Check the hoist's base height with the supplier or your therapist before you choose the bed.
