Shower stools

A shower stool gives you a small, stable seat for washing without the bulk of a full shower chair. Most stools in this range are backless and sit on a base about 380mm deep, so they suit small showers and recesses where a chair would crowd the space. Allcare Warehouse stocks height adjustable stools on steel and aluminium frames, padded models, an extra wide stool and two Rebotec designs. Each listing shows the seat height range and maximum user weight wherever the manufacturer supplies them.

When a stool suits better than a chair

The main reason to choose a stool is space. Most stools here sit on a base 550mm wide and 380mm deep, while a standard shower chair needs about 560mm each way. A stool also leaves your back clear to wash. It has no back support, so it suits people who can sit upright comfortably on their own. If you need something to lean against, look at shower chairs or the padded stool with backrest below.

Healthdirect lists a seat in the shower or bath, along with non-slip mats, among the ways to reduce slips in wet areas at home.

The range

  • Standard stool: a moulded plastic seat with integrated arms on a steel frame, 510mm to 660mm high, rated to 125kg.
  • Aluminium stool: the same seat and arms on a lightweight, rust proof frame, rated to 175kg and tested to Australian Standard AS/NZS 3973.
  • Stool with no arms: side handles to help with transfers instead of arms, rated to 125kg.
  • Extra wide stool: a wider padded seat on a reinforced frame with integrated arms. Specify the size when you order.
  • Rebotec Verona: a round aluminium stool weighing 2.6kg, rated to 175kg, that assembles without tools.
  • Rebotec Monaco: rust resistant aluminium legs that adjust from 420mm to 570mm, with a front cut out for hygiene access.

Padded shower stool options

The padded stools add a cushioned seat for comfort on longer showers, on the same 550mm by 380mm base and 520mm to 670mm height range, rated to 125kg. They have integrated arms and non-slip rubber tips like the standard model. A moulded plastic seat is the simpler option if you prefer a hard surface.

Shower stool with backrest

If you like the compact base but want some support behind you, the padded stool with backrest keeps the same base and height range and adds a padded back. It sits between a stool and a chair. For a full comparison of the three seat types, including commode chairs, read our seating comparison guide.

Measuring for a small shower

Measure the shower floor, the opening you will carry the stool through and any step or hob at the entry. Most stools here are height adjustable, so set the legs so your feet rest flat on the floor while seated. Most models have non-slip rubber tips or feet, but check that all four sit firmly before each use.

Frequently asked questions

Can I take a shower stool when I travel?
Yes. The Rebotec Verona weighs 2.6kg and assembles without tools, and a Rebotec travel bag made for Rebotec stools is sold separately. Check that the stool will fit the shower where you are staying before you pack it.
Is a shower stool with arms better than one without?
Arms give you something to push against as you sit and stand, which many people find steadier. The stool with no arms has side handles instead, which leaves the sides open if you shift sideways onto the seat. Ask to see both at our Liverpool showroom if you are unsure.
Which shower stool takes the most weight?
The aluminium stool and the Rebotec Verona have the highest ratings listed, at 175kg each. The extra wide stool has a reinforced frame, so ask us for its rating in the size you need.
