Hand sanitiser and sanitising sprays

Hand sanitiser is the practical choice when there is no sink nearby, and this small part of our personal care range lists three Aqium hand sanitisers and two MY Healthstyle sprays. Each listing names its active ingredient and strength, so you can compare them before you call 1300 767 777 to order.

Aqium hand sanitisers

All three Aqium formulas contain 70% alcohol, and the maker describes them as non-sticky and quick to air dry. What changes between them is what is added for the skin:

  • Aqium Antibacterial Hand Sanitiser: the original, with glycerin and pro-vitamin B5.
  • Aqium Antibacterial Hand Sanitiser With Aloe: the same base with aloe vera.
  • Aqium Ultra Antibacterial Hand Sanitiser: adds paraffinum liquidum and dimethicone, which the maker includes to hydrate hands.

How to use hand sanitiser

Healthdirect suggests putting about half a teaspoon of an alcohol-based hand rub in your palm, then rubbing it over every surface of both hands, between the fingers too, until your hands are dry. That takes about 20 to 30 seconds.

Sprays for skin and hard surfaces

MY Healthstyle makes both sprays here, each in a 500mL bottle. MY Dual Purpose Sanitiser uses 70% w/v isopropyl alcohol and is made for skin and surfaces alike, with a lemon scent. MY Surface Disinfectant is for hard surfaces only: it pairs 1.5% w/v hydrogen peroxide with 0.5% benzalkonium chloride, and the maker states it is non-corrosive and biodegradable. Hand washes, cleaning wipes and other hygiene products are in household hygiene.

Frequently asked questions

Can hand sanitiser replace washing my hands?

Not every time. Healthdirect says warm, soapy water is the best option when your hands are visibly dirty, because hand sanitiser only works on hands with no visible dirt on them. Sanitiser is the backup for when soap and water are not available, such as after using public transport.

Is hand sanitiser safe to keep around children?

It needs care. Healthdirect warns that alcohol-based hand sanitiser can be poisonous if swallowed, so store bottles out of reach and supervise children while they use it. For poisoning advice, the Poisons Information Centre is available 24 hours a day on 13 11 26.

Can I order sanitiser for a workplace or care facility?

Yes. There is no online cart, so call 1300 767 777 or email [email protected] with the products and quantities you need. We deliver Sydney wide and send freight within NSW. Facilities ordering other supplies at the same time can see our facility equipment page.
