Bath transfer benches & bath boards

A bath transfer bench lets you sit down outside the bath, shift across the seat and then bring your legs over the edge, instead of stepping over it. A bath board does a similar job, resting across the top of the bath. Allcare Warehouse stocks four transfer benches, including padded, sliding and heavy duty models, and four bath boards, including the Cosby and Kingfisher. Each listing gives the seat size and maximum user weight so you can check the fit before you visit.

Tub transfer bench options

Every bath transfer bench, or tub transfer bench, here has a height adjustable aluminium frame, a curved backrest and an integrated grab rail that you order for the left or right side.

  • Bath transfer bench: an 800mm wide moulded seat with drainage holes and a soap dish, 450mm to 565mm high, rated to 130kg.
  • Padded bench: a three-piece padded seat 590mm wide that lets water drain between the pads, 455mm to 565mm high, rated to 130kg.
  • Sliding bench: the seat slides across to the bathing position, with anti-slide locks at both ends and a lap belt, rated to 125kg.
  • Heavy duty bench: a reinforced 780mm wide frame for larger users, 460mm to 560mm high, rated to 170kg.

Extension legs that add 90mm of height, and legs with suction cups, are listed as accessories for several benches.

Bath board options

A bath board sits across both edges of the bath, so you sit at rim height and wash seated. Each board has adjustable feet to suit most baths, and the Kingfisher feet have suction cups that lock into position.

  • Cosby bathboard: a contoured, channelled surface reinforced with exterior grade plywood, 710mm wide, rated to 180kg.
  • Kingfisher bathboard: a soap dish, removable grab rail and suction cup feet that swivel, 690mm wide, rated to 200kg.
  • Plastic bathboard (680mm): a wider contour at one end to help transfers, a soap dish and removable grab rail, rated to 150kg.
  • Plastic bathboard (780mm): a wide contoured seat, removable grab rail and a built-in hand shower holder, rated to 100kg.

Bench, board or swivel seat?

A bench is longer and has a backrest, so it suits people who want support while they shift across. A board is lighter and simpler, but you sit without a back. A swivel bath seat, from our shower chairs and bath seats range, rotates you into position instead. Whatever you choose, Healthdirect lists a seat in the bath and handrails among the ways to reduce slips in wet areas, and grab rails on the wall give extra support as you sit and stand.

Measuring your bath

Measure the inside and outside width of the bath where you will sit, the height of the rim from the floor and the clear floor space beside the bath. Compare these with the seat width and height range on each listing. Bench grab rails are fitted to one side only, so note where your taps and walls sit before you choose left or right. Our guide to accessible bathroom design covers wider layout questions. To buy, call 1300 767 777, visit the Liverpool showroom or use our contact page.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a hand shower with a bath transfer bench?
Usually, yes. Once you are seated over the bath, a fixed shower head can be hard to reach or aim. A hand shower that connects to the shower outlet or clamps onto the bath tap lets you wash sitting down. Hand showers are in our Bathroom Accessories range.
Will a bath board fit my bath?
Bath boards rest on both edges of the bath. Measure the outside width of your bath where you will sit and compare it with the board width: boards here run from 680mm to 780mm. Each board has adjustable feet to suit most baths.
Which bath transfer bench takes the most weight?
The heavy duty bench has the highest rating of the benches, at 170kg. Among the boards, the Kingfisher has the highest rating, at 200kg. Each listing shows its own rating.
