Knee sleeve options

A knee sleeve pulls on over the knee and adds compression and warmth while the knee bends freely. Choices include the DonJoy Performance Anaform 2mm and 4mm Knee Sleeves, the DonJoy Performance TriZone Knee Sleeve, BA Thermal Slip-on Knee Sleeves and Bodyassist slip-on elastic supports. Many come in an open patella style, with a hole over the kneecap, or a closed patella style that covers it. The BA Power Lift 7mm Thick Knee Sleeve is a thicker neoprene option, and the Activease Low Compression Magnetic Knee Support also appears with our compression hosiery.

Patella strap and kneecap supports

A patella strap is a narrow band worn just below the kneecap that puts pressure over the patellar tendon. The McDavid Patella Knee Strap, One Size Patella Knee Strap, Jumper's Patella Knee Strap and Anaform PinPoint Knee Strap are in this range. For kneecap tracking, the Patella Stabilizer (PatStab) uses a horseshoe-shaped buttress around the kneecap, according to its description, and the Formfit Patellofemoral Knee Tracker Brace has an adjustable buttress and straps.

Hinged knee brace and immobilisers

A hinged knee brace has rigid side hinges for side-to-side stability. The McDavid PSII Hinged Knee has geared hinges with hyperextension stops, and the DonJoy Webtech knee braces, in long and short versions, have dual-axis hinges. Other options are the McDavid PRO STABILISER Hinged Knee, DonJoy Performance Bionic Hinged Knee Brace, X-Action Pro Hinged Knee Brace and M-Brace Laced Hinged Patella Stabiliser Knee.

For recovery after surgery or a serious injury, the Post Op Hinged Knee Immobiliser has dial-in flexion and extension stops at 0, 15, 30, 60 and 90 degrees, and the Formfit Knee Immobilizer has a rigid back stay and adjustable side stays. These are usually chosen on the instruction of the surgeon, doctor or physiotherapist managing the injury.

Getting the right knee support

Open or closed patella: which should I choose?
Both styles are available in sleeves and wraps. An open patella support has a cut-out over the kneecap, and a closed patella support covers it fully. Which one suits you depends on your knee, so ask your GP or physiotherapist, then compare both styles before you buy.
Can I wear a knee brace for sport?
Many supports in this range come from sports brands such as McDavid and DonJoy Performance, and some are made for a particular sport, such as the McDavid Impact volleyball knee pads and the BA El-Supremo Wrestling Knee Pad. Check each product description for the activity it suits.
Can I use NDIS funding for a knee brace?
The NDIA decides what your plan can fund, not Allcare, so check with your plan manager or support coordinator before ordering a knee brace. If it is covered, call 1300 767 777 to talk about ordering, however your plan is managed.
