Waterproof mattress protectors and bed protection

A waterproof mattress protector keeps spills, sweat and leaks out of the mattress, which matters when a mattress is expensive to replace or someone spends long hours in bed. Allcare Warehouse's Bedding & Bed Protection range covers protectors and covers, absorbent bed pads and sheets cut to fit adjustable beds. Some are soft enough to feel like ordinary bedding, while others are wipeable for facilities with infection control needs. This page explains the options so you can match protection to the bed and the person.

Fitted mattress protectors and full covers

  • Mattress Protector, Fitted Sheet Style: a tencel surface over a breathable PU backing (a thin waterproof layer that lets air through), with a 32cm stretch skirt
  • Mattress Cover, Fully Enclosed: zips right around the mattress to protect it from liquid and stains and the user from dust mites
  • Zerotec medical grade covers: wipeable PVC with welded seams and a drip cover over the zip, for 15cm and 20cm mattresses and 5cm overlays
  • Plastic Fitted Sheet: waterproof hospital grade PVC with elasticised sides
  • Anti-Allergy Bedding Covers: a breathable, waterproof mattress, duvet and pillow cover pack

Choose a waterproof mattress protector by how often it comes off. A fitted mattress protector goes on like a sheet and is quick to change. A fully enclosed cover stays on and protects every side.

Pillow protectors

The Icare pillow protector has the same tencel surface and noiseless PU backing as the fitted protector, closes with a zip and is sold in pairs. Icare and Visco pillows sit in our pillows and cushions range.

Absorbent bed pads and underpads

An absorbent bed pad lies on top of the sheet and holds fluid away from the skin. Icare's reusable bed pads have tuck-in flaps and three layers, and come in long single to queen. The Kylie Bed Sheet and Care Quip Deluxe Sheet are quilted absorbent sheets designed to be used with a plastic fitted sheet, and the Molinea underpad protects beds and chairs. Washable chair pads and a lift chair protector are here too, and more options sit in our bed and chair protection range. Continence Health Australia lists waterproof mattress protectors, pillow protectors and absorbent sheets among the products that help protect bedding.

Medical sheet sets for adjustable beds

Ordinary fitted sheets can pull off a profiling bed, one that bends at the head and knees, so a medical sheet set needs a deeper, shaped fit. Icare adjustable bed sheet sets are 1000 thread count cotton sateen with a 36cm drop, cut to fit and move with profiling beds, in white or charcoal. Extra long sets add 300mm for the IC333 extra long bed in our home care beds, and a fitted sheet set is made for the Avalon Rotating Bed.

Also in this range

The category also lists Icare pressure care overlays, a medical sheepskin, pillow suspenders and the HydroSense and ThermoPad temperature pads. Pressure overlays are compared in full with our mattresses and overlays, and the rest of the bedroom is in our bedroom aids.

Frequently asked questions

Will a waterproof mattress protector make the bed hot or noisy?
The Icare fitted protector, fully enclosed cover and pillow protector use a breathable, noiseless backing under a tencel surface, so they feel closer to a sheet. Plastic fitted sheets and PVC covers give full fluid protection but feel less like ordinary bedding.
Which protector suits an aged care facility?
Facilities often choose covers that can be wiped down between residents. The Zerotec medical grade covers are fully wipeable with welded seams and a drip cover over the zip, and are made for home or facility use where infection control is required.
How should I wash reusable bed pads?
Icare's reusable bed pads are machine washable and should be line dried in the shade, without machine drying, ironing or dry-cleaning. Make sure each pad is fully dry before it goes back on the bed. Check the care label for each product.
