Toilet safety rails

A toilet safety rail is a grab rail fixed to the wall beside or around the toilet, giving you something solid to hold as you sit down and stand up. Allcare Warehouse lists 12 Care Quip toilet rails, all in 32mm marine grade stainless steel and all made in Australia. They sit within our toilet aids range.

Choosing a toilet grab rail shape

All 12 listings share the name Toilet Rail, so compare the drawing, dimensions and product code on each one. Five include a rear section that runs behind the toilet: for these you specify dimension B to suit your cistern, and the listings note that a rear rail can obstruct the seat or cistern. One rail, AC0460, has an additional leg for greater support. Nine of the rails also come in a version with opposite dimensions for the other side of the toilet, named under "Also available" on the listing, such as AC0360 for AC0350.

Toilet grab rail or toilet surround frame?

A toilet grab rail is fixed to the wall, so it needs a wall that can take the fixings and a tradesperson to install it. A toilet surround frame stands on the floor around your existing toilet and needs no wall fixing. Toilet surrounds, over toilet frames and toilet safety arms are in toilet aids, and raised toilet seats add height to the seat itself. For rails in the shower or beside the bath, see grab rails.

Planning where the rail goes

Where the rail goes matters as much as which rail you choose. If an occupational therapist or other health professional is assessing the bathroom, ask them to mark the position before the tradesperson fits anything. Our grab rail placement guide covers what to plan around the toilet. To ask about a rail, call 1300 767 777, email [email protected] or visit our Liverpool showroom.

Frequently asked questions

Can I install a toilet safety rail myself?

No. Each listing states that the rail must be installed by a qualified tradesperson. If you need something that does not fix to the wall, look at the toilet surrounds and over toilet frames in toilet aids.

Which toilet rails need extra measurements?

The five rails with a rear section ask you to specify dimension B to suit your cistern, and their listings note that a rear rail can obstruct the seat or cistern. Measure your toilet and cistern before ordering, or call 1300 767 777 with the measurements and the team can help.

Which side of the toilet should the rail go on?

That depends on the person and the room. Nine of the rails come in a version with opposite dimensions for the other side, named on each listing under "Also available". A health professional assessing the bathroom can advise which side and position suit you.
