Transfer aids: transfer boards, belts and turntables
A transfer board bridges the gap between two seats, so a person can slide across instead of being lifted, from a wheelchair to a bed, toilet or car. The Transfer Aids range at Allcare Warehouse is for transfers without a hoist, where the person can sit up and help with the move. It also covers transfer belts, turntables, swivel seats, standing platforms and car aids. Products are shown without prices, so call 1300 767 777 or visit our Liverpool showroom to compare them.

Choosing a transfer board
Boards differ in shape, material and the transfer they are made for:
- Timber Transfer Board: laminated, polished plywood, chamfered to slide under the person, with a stated maximum user weight of 130kg.
- Curved Transfer Board: an arc shape that follows the natural sweep of an assisted transfer, with a stated maximum user weight of 150kg.
- The Slider: Perspex, with a covered rear wheel cutout so the person passes over the wheelchair wheel arch.
- Easy Glide 3 Fold: a flexible three part board for sitting transfers to beds, toilets and car seats, with a long version for wheelchair to car.
- Easy Glide Oval and Patslide: boards for lying transfers, such as bed to bed or bed to trolley.
Several boards are marked as not to be used as a lifting device: the person slides across. The Move Master, Easy Slide, Roller Slide Flexi and Flexi Move Short are sliding mats and boards that reduce friction under the person.
Transfer belt or walking belt
A transfer belt fastens around the person's waist or hips and gives the carer secure handles during sit-to-stand moves. The Rebotec Seat To Stand Belt, Romedic Return Belt and Easy Belt/Flexibelt are made for standing transfers, while the Walking Belt and Padded Walking Belt also support assisted walking. Ask a physiotherapist to show you the technique for each transfer, as Safe Work Australia lists moving a person among its hazardous manual tasks.
Patient turntable and swivel seats
A patient turntable is a low swivel platform the person stands on while being turned. Ours swivels 360 degrees, has a non slip finish and lists a maximum user weight of 125kg. The Handy Soft Turn Pad and Patient Swivel Seat do the same for seated turns.
Standing transfer platforms
On the Romedic Return and Quick Move, the person rises with their own strength holding the grip bars, and the carer wheels them to the bed, wheelchair or toilet. The Quick Move description notes the person needs some arm strength and must be able to bear weight.
Car transfer bar and car seat aids
The car transfer bar slots into the U-shaped striker plate on the car door frame to give a firm handhold getting in and out. The Auto Slide attaches to the car seat to help the person turn and slide sideways.
When a transfer aid is not enough
If the person cannot bear weight or help with the move, a hoist may be needed; see Patient Hoists & Slings. For moving someone up the bed or back into a chair, slide sheets are often the simpler tool. For the bathroom, see transfer benches, and for seating between transfers, our wheelchairs. Everything sits within our patient handling range, and you can compare boards at our Liverpool showroom.
