Nappy rash care

Pregnancy, Birth and Baby says frequent nappy changes, careful cleaning of the skin and a barrier cream almost always help nappy rash heal, and suggests asking a pharmacist to recommend a cream. Options in this range:

  • Bepanthen Nappy Rash Ointment in 30g and 100g sizes.
  • Curash Babycare Medicated Nappy Rash Cream (100g) and Medicated Nappy Rash Spray (50mL, with 10% zinc oxide).
  • Curash Babycare Anti-Rash Baby Powder, a cornstarch powder with zinc oxide, and a Family Powder version.

Baby wipes

Pregnancy, Birth and Baby recommends wipes and soap made for babies, as some products can irritate a baby's skin. WaterWipes Fragrance Free Sensitive Skin wipes come in packs from 60 up to a 720 wipe box, along with Toddler Soapberry wipes and Sensitive Facial Wipes. Curash Babycare wipes come in Simply Water, Fragrance Free, Aloe Vera & Chamomile and Vitamin E versions, in single packs of 20 or 80 and multipacks.

Washes, bath and hair

For bath time, Curash Babycare has a Moisturising Soap Free Bath, a Soothing Oatmeal Wash and a 2 in 1 Shampoo & Conditioner with chamomile extract, each 400mL. DermaVeen adds an Extra Gentle Baby Soap-Free Wash and a Calmexa Bath Soak, plus oatmeal shampoo and conditioner for dry, flaky or sensitive scalps in sizes up to 1L. The Curash New Mother's Gift Pack bundles the cream, powder, bath, shampoo and fragrance free wipes in a reusable tote bag.

Moisturisers and dry skin

For eczema, Healthdirect recommends applying a moisturiser or emollient at least twice a day, even when the skin is under control, and says thick moisturisers or ointments work best. Many DermaVeen moisturisers contain colloidal oatmeal, including Extra Gentle Baby Moisturising Cream, Extra Gentle Baby Eczema Cream, the Sensitive Relief eczema cream, lotion and ointment, and Calmexa Moisturiser with Ceramides. Larger family sizes of the Daily Nourish and Extra Hydration lines go up to 1kg. Curash Babycare Sorbolene Cream (400mL) is fragrance free.

First aid and family skin care

Bepanthen First Aid Cream and Antiseptic Soothing Cream come in two sizes each, alongside Bepanthen Scar Treatment Silicone Gel and Curash Multi-Purpose Healing Cream. Not everything here is made for children: adult lines include DermaVeen facial cleanser, serum and moisturiser, hand cream and a body moisturiser with SPF 50+. More options are in first aid and wound care and skin care.
