Walking sticks and quad sticks

A walking stick gives you something steady to lean on when you are mostly confident on your feet but want extra balance. Allcare Warehouse stocks adjustable aluminium sticks, folding sticks, quad sticks, solid timber and bamboo canes, and a walking stick with a built-in seat. Most adjust in height, and handle shapes range from crook and swan neck to T-handle and moulded grips. The guide below explains the options and the small accessories that make a stick easier to live with.

Why we don't display Prices ?

In this competitive market, we do the research on your behalf for the best prices and stock availability from different suppliers. Our product sourcing team is on constant lookout for the best deals from our suppliers, and we pass these great discounts on to you.

Adjustable sticks and handle shapes

Our aluminium sticks adjust in height. The handle is the part you hold all day, so choose by comfort:

  • Crook and swan neck: traditional shapes with a foam grip, and the swan neck has a wrist strap.
  • T, P and U handles: wooden T-handles, plus offset P-handles and a U-handle with foam grips, on two-section extendable sticks.
  • Moulded handles: the Fisher moulded handle spreads pressure across the palm and comes in left or right hand versions.

Folding walking stick options

A folding walking stick packs into a bag or under a car seat when you do not need it. The Short and Long Folding sticks fold into four sections and have a wrist strap and hardwood handle. The self-standing T-handle stick also folds, stands up on its own on four small feet and has a light in the handle.

Quad stick: a wider base

A quad stick has a small base with four rubber feet, giving more contact with the ground than a single tip. Several of ours have a low profile offset base and a handle that rotates for left or right hand use. Check the maximum user weight on each product, as some are rated lower than our standard sticks. If you need more support than a quad stick, look at rollators and walking frames or crutches.

Walking cane in timber or bamboo

For a classic look, the solid wooden walking cane in dark brown and the natural bamboo cane are both 89 cm long and can be cut to length. The Walking Stick Seat is a folding stick with a canvas seat for resting while you wait.

Small accessories

A wrist strap stops the stick dropping when you use your hands, and the Frog holder clips onto a table edge so the stick stays upright. Replacement 19 mm rubber tips are listed here, with more sizes in mobility accessories. Our guide to fall prevention equipment covers other ways to make home safer.

Funding

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) lists walking sticks or canes among its examples of low-cost assistive technology, though what is funded depends on your plan. See our NDIS hub for how buying through a plan works, or browse all walking aids.

Frequently asked questions

What length walking stick do I need?
The guide in our timber cane listings is to stand straight in your normal shoes with your arms hanging down, and have someone measure from the floor to where your wrist bends, then add about 2.5 cm. A physiotherapist can check the length and which hand to hold it in.
Can a timber walking stick be shortened?
Yes. The solid wooden and bamboo canes can be cut down. Pull off the rubber tip, cut the stick to the length you need, then slide the tip back on. Aluminium sticks are not cut, as they adjust in height instead.
Can I see walking sticks in store?
Yes. A selection of walking sticks and quad sticks is on display at our Liverpool showroom inside Northumberland Arcade, 230 Northumberland Street. Call 1300 767 777 before you visit if you are after a particular handle or colour.
