Why light and noise matter
Healthdirect advises that a bedroom should be quiet and dark, at the right temperature, with comfortable bedding. For people who sleep during the day, such as shiftworkers, the same page suggests ear plugs or a white noise machine to muffle sound, and removing lights and other distractions.
Dreamlight eye masks
Both Dreamlight masks are designed to block light completely, and the maker describes both as make-up friendly.
- Dreamlight Ease: the cushioned model. Dreamlight says the cushion layout was guided by 3D facial mapping, to spread padding around sensitive areas of the face.
- Ease Lite: a lighter, more compact mask that the maker pitches as a travel companion.
Welcare Sleep-Tight sound machine
The Welcare Sleep-Tight records a mother's heartbeat through a fingertip sensor and plays it back. It also has white noise, rain, ocean and summer night sounds, and four lullabies: Sleepy Lullaby, Brahms Lullaby, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Soothing Music Box Lullaby. A timer stops play after 15, 30 or 60 minutes, or it can run continuously. Volume has seven levels including mute, and a hanging strap means it can go in the pram, so a familiar sound travels with your child.

Can the Dreamlight masks be washed?
Yes. Dreamlight lists the Ease Lite as hand wash friendly and the Dreamlight Ease as wash friendly, made with gentle materials. Follow the care directions supplied with your mask, and ask us on 1300 767 777 if you want to check care details before you order.
How is the Welcare sound machine powered?
It runs on 3 AA batteries, so it does not need a power point and can be used in the pram or away from home. A low battery indicator shows when the batteries need replacing. Keep spares on hand if you rely on it every night, especially when travelling.
Are there other sleep products for babies?
