Eating & Kitchen Aids
Eating aids help people with a weak grip, a tremor, limited wrist movement or the use of one hand to eat, drink and prepare food with less effort. Allcare Warehouse stocks adaptive cutlery, cups and plates, jar openers, kettle tippers and one-handed preparation boards in our Eating & Kitchen Aids range. The sections below group the range by task, with the features each maker lists.

Adaptive cutlery for a weak or restricted grip
Adaptive cutlery changes the handle or blade so less grip and wrist movement is needed. Caring Cutlery has contoured handles and a finger indent on the knife and fork for directional control. Queens Cutlery has cylindrical built-up handles, and the Kings Cutlery sets are modular, with utensils that push into the chosen handle. The Reflex Cutlery Range sets the blade at an angle to minimise wrist movement. For cutting with one hand, the Rocker Knife, Nelson Knife and Amefa Angled Knife use a rocking action. Our guide to cutlery for weak grip explains how to compare them.
Cups, mugs and plates
- The Two Handled Mug and Clear Caring Mug have two handles to hold the mug in position, and the Clear Caring Mug has a wide, stable base.
- The Insulated Mug has a double wall and a lid with a drinking spout.
- The Pat Saunders Straw has a one-way valve that keeps the straw filled with fluid between sips.
- The Plate Surround clips onto a dinner plate to create a high edge for one-handed eating, and the Manoy Plate has a sloping base and one high side.
The Dysphagia Cup is shaped to give nose clearance so the cup can be emptied without tilting the head back. Swallowing difficulty, called dysphagia, needs advice from a doctor, who may refer you to a speech pathologist, as Healthdirect explains. Products for modified drinks are in our thickened drinks range.
Jar opener and preparation aids
Each jar opener works differently. The Belliclamp hooks over a benchtop and holds the jar so both hands can twist, the Spillnot grips jars in non-slip cones, the Undo-it screws under a shelf, and the Strongboy uses a lever band. The Food Preparation System, Bread Board and Spread Board hold food in place for one-handed cutting and spreading, and the Gordon Peeler clamps to a work surface.
Kettle tipper
A kettle tipper holds the kettle on a pivoting frame so you pour by pressing the handle rather than lifting. We stock a Cordless Kettle Tipper for jug kettles and a Standard Kettle Tipper, which is not suitable for cordless kettles. The Uccello Kettle range is listed with effortless pouring, auto shut-off and a large non-slip base.
Non slip mat
Dycem grips on both sides without adhesive. The Dycem Anchor Mat steadies a plate or bowl, and the Dycem Reel can be cut to size.
Choosing and paying for eating aids
The NDIS lists modified eating utensils as an example of low-cost assistive technology, and our guide to buying aids with NDIS funding explains how plans work. Funding decisions are made by the NDIA. These items sit within our wider daily living aids range, alongside dressing aids. To see them in person, visit the Liverpool showroom.
