Overbed tables

An overbed table rolls over a bed or chair so meals, reading, a laptop or a drink sit within easy reach. Allcare Warehouse brings its tables together here, from Icare split-top tables to spring-loaded and gas-assisted models and large over chair tables. They differ in how they adjust, how big the top is and what shape the base takes. This page explains those differences so you can choose a table that fits the bed, the chair and the person using it.

Tilting overbed table options

A tilting overbed table angles its top towards the user for reading or writing, and a raised lip helps stop items sliding off.

  • Icare Over Bed Table: a split table top with a reversible tilting section that angles from 0 to 70 degrees and a fixed side table that stays flat for a drink. Height adjusts from 730 to 1090mm and the top holds up to 30kg.
  • Litavo Overbed Table: height and angle adjustment with a spring-loaded mechanism, a woodgrain laminate top and a raised lip
  • Overbed Table: height and angle adjustment, two locking castors, and it disassembles for storage and transport
  • Handi Table: a smaller 540 by 400mm top with height and angle adjustment

Height-adjustable tables

Some tables stay flat and adjust only in height. The Viva Overbed Table has a gas-assisted mechanism, so the top can be set at any height with one hand, and a seamless moulded top that is easy to clean. The Overbed Table Spring Loaded adjusts from 720 to 1080mm and also disassembles.

Over chair table choices

An over chair table needs a base that slides under or around a chair. A U-shaped base lets the table sit closer to the user, and the Icare C Shape Base is made to fit more easily over a chair.

  • Overchair Table Large: a 1000 by 600mm top on a four-post frame for heavier items, with height and angle adjustment
  • Overchair Table: a lighter 600 by 415mm top on a T-shaped base with three castors
  • Icare Over Bed Table, Low Profile: a 45mm high base for tight spaces under beds and chairs

Bed-mounted tables

For Icare beds, the Bed Mounted Side Table and Fold Down Tray Table attach to the side of the bed and can sit anywhere along it, holding up to 10kg. The fold-down tray folds away to leave a small fixed shelf. Both suit our home care beds, and an organiser tray for the Icare table is in our bed accessories.

Measure the bed or chair height and check the table's range covers it. Check the base fits under the bed or around the chair, and decide whether the user needs a tilting top or just a flat surface. Frequently asked questions

Will an overbed table fit over a recliner or lift chair?
Look for a U-shaped or C-shaped base and check the inside width against the chair. The Icare C Shape Base fits more easily over a chair, and the Overchair Table Large has an 825mm inner base width for larger chairs.
How much weight can an overbed table hold?
It varies by model, so check each product page. The Icare Over Bed Table top holds up to 30kg, while the Icare bed-mounted side table and fold-down tray hold up to 10kg. The Overchair Table Large has a four-post frame for heavier items.
Can these tables be moved between rooms?
Yes. The tables here are on castors, and several, including the Overbed Table, Overbed Table Spring Loaded and Handi Table, also disassemble for storage or transport. Locking castors on some models hold the table in place once positioned.
