Home and portable oxygen concentrators
Home oxygen from a portable concentrator or a tank is one option Healthdirect describes for severe COPD, where it can help ease breathing. Two concentrators are listed:
- DJMed High Capacity 10L Oxygen Concentrator: a home unit on wheels with a flow of 1 to 10 litres per minute, which the maker says suits people who need more than 5 litres per minute. It is built for use at home or in a medical facility.
- Portable Oxygen Concentrator: a portable oxygen concentrator that runs on battery, weighs about 2kg and has an LCD display. The maker rates its noise at 43 dB.

Oxygen bottle holders and carriers
For people who use cylinders, Care Quip makes three holders. The oxygen bottle carrier slides onto a wheelchair tilt bar and clamps to the frame, one holder fixes on with an adjustable height clamp and two straps, and a side-mounted holder comes with its own side rail and ties. Spacers for puffers
The Welcare Spacer is an anti-static chamber that fits a puffer, also called a metered dose inhaler. Replacement child and adult face masks for it are listed separately. Nebulisers, which turn liquid medicine into a fine mist, have their own range.
Air purifiers, humidifier parts and filters
Homedics products make up most of this range. How often do Homedics filters need replacing?
Each listing gives its own interval. The True HEPA filters are listed for replacement every 12 months, the PetPlus odour filters every 6 months and the carbon pre-filters for the AP15AU and AP25AU every three months. The Nano Coil filter is listed as lasting up to 18 months, and humidifier demineralisation cartridges every 30 to 40 fillings, depending on water hardness.
Which oxygen cylinders do the holders take?
The oxygen bottle carrier is listed for type C cylinders and the strapped holder for C size cylinders. The side-mounted holder's listing gives only its dimensions, 145mm wide, 125mm deep and 405mm tall, so measure your cylinder or check its size with your oxygen supplier before ordering that one.
Which spacer mask do I need?
Welcare lists a replacement child face mask and a replacement adult face mask for its spacer. The maker's note on each says your healthcare professional will advise whether the product suits you and your condition, so ask your doctor or pharmacist which size to use and how to use it with your puffer.
