Male incontinence pads are shaped to fit the male body, with a cup-like or contoured design and an adhesive strip that holds them inside your own firm-fitting underwear. The Allcare Warehouse Male Continence Products range includes shields, guards and pouches from TENA Men, Depend, iD For Men, Lille Suprem and MoliCare, plus men's protective underwear for heavier leaks. Shields, guards and pouches by level

  • Shields: for very light leaks such as drips and dribbles. TENA Men Protective Shield Extra Light is 3mm thin, and Depend Shields for Men come in light absorbency.
  • Guards and protectors: TENA Men Absorbent Protector comes in Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3, with Level 1 just 5mm thin, and Depend Guards for Men are rated for moderate absorbency.
  • Pouches: iD For Men comes in Level 1 at 385ml, Level 2 at 430ml and Level 3 at 653ml.
  • Pads: larger male incontinence pads such as Lille Suprem for Men Extra at 650ml and the MoliCare Premium MEN PAD, which the maker rates for light to moderate incontinence.

Incontinence guards for men: getting the fit right

Incontinence guards for men rely on close contact with the body, so they are made for briefs or boxer briefs. Depend notes that its guards are not suitable for boxer shorts. If you prefer looser underwear, or leaks are heavier, protective underwear may suit better.

Men's protective underwear

For heavier leaks, pull-up styles replace your underwear altogether. TENA Men Protective Underwear Level 4 is described by the maker as its most absorbent men's underwear, for heavy incontinence day and night. TENA Men Pant Active Fit Plus in navy comes in medium and large. Depend Real Fit for Men includes heavy absorbency, Night Defence and 16-pack value packs. Dailee Pants Plus For Men, in blue, has quick-tear sides for easy removal, and MoliCare Premium MEN PANTS round out the range. Unisex options are in incontinence pants, and all types are on the Adult Continence page.

Bladder changes and the prostate

Many men notice bladder symptoms as they age that could be linked to changes in the prostate gland, and for some these changes lead to leaking. Continence Health Australia's guide to prostate and bladder control lists signs worth raising with a GP or pelvic health physiotherapist, such as leaking a little after finishing on the toilet. Our article on types of urinary incontinence covers other common causes. Pads manage leaks but do not treat the cause, so it is worth getting new or changing symptoms checked.

Frequently asked questions

What if I need male incontinence pads after prostate surgery?

The maker of iD For Men says its pouch may be needed when recovering from prostatectomy surgery. Your surgical team, GP or a nurse continence specialist is the best guide to how much protection you will need and for how long. We can then help you compare male incontinence pads by level.

Are there alternatives to pads for men?

Continence Health Australia notes that some men use a urinary sheath drainage system, which connects to a leg bag, instead of pads. A nurse continence specialist can help choose and fit one. Sheaths are not part of this range, so call us to ask.

Can NDIS funding be used for men's continence products?

Men whose incontinence is directly related to their disability may be able to have continence products funded through the NDIS. The NDIA decides what a plan funds. Our guide to buying with NDIS funding explains the steps.
