Bed rails and bed accessories

Bed rails and accessories turn a care bed into one that fits the person using it. Allcare Warehouse's Bed Accessories range covers side rails, grab rails, bed sticks, over bed poles, padded rail covers, blanket cradles, storage pouches and controller options, most of them made to fit Icare beds. Choosing the right ones depends on whether the person needs help moving, protection from rolling out, or just a few things within reach. This page sorts the range by what each item does.

Side rails for Icare beds

Icare's slip-on rails fit the side of the Icare homecare beds and can be positioned where they are needed.

  • Low Side Rail: a shorter four-rail design for support and stability in bed
  • High Side Rail: a taller four-rail design for support when getting in and out of bed
  • Full Length Side Rail: a fold-down rail in left and right hand versions
  • Extendable Side Rail: locks at standard or full width, and retracts so the user can get out freely

Rails suit some people and not others, so ask an occupational therapist or nurse whether one is right.

Bed sticks and the U-Assist rail

A bed stick is a short, upright handle that fixes to the side of the bed and gives the user something firm to hold when sitting up, turning or standing. The Icare Bed Stick slips on anywhere along either side. The U-Assist Side Rail is a slimline rail with multiple grab points, designed as a variation on the bed stick. For beds other than Icare, rails and bed sticks that slide between the mattress and base are in our bedside aids.

Over bed poles

An over bed pole is a freestanding frame with a handle that hangs over the bed, so the user can pull themselves up or help with turning. The Icare Over Bed Pole is heavy-duty steel, stands 190cm high and suits all Icare beds. A self help pole fits the Sileo Aged Care Bed.

Side rail covers and padding

These side rail covers are full-height padded sleeves in Zerotec wipeable medical fabric that fit over Icare rails. Foam bumpers for other beds are in our bedside aids.

Blanket cradles, heel protection and comfort

A blanket cradle mounts to the bed and holds the weight of sheets and blankets off the lower legs and feet. The Icare Blanket Cradle suits all Icare beds except the Companion base and adjusts in height. The range also has a soft heel protector, a wipeable heel suspender (more in our heel protectors range), and HydroSense temperature-controlled water pads and wraps.

Trays, storage and controls

A bed mounted side table, fold-down tray and bedside pouch keep small items close, and the Icare Organiser Tray sits on an Icare overbed table. The Dual Joystick Controller is an alternative to the standard handset for users with limited hand mobility, available for the IC333.

More for the bed

Gravitate rails for facility beds sit with our facility beds, and our care beds hub covers every frame. Our guide to bed mobility equipment explains how rails and poles help. To ask, call 1300 767 777 or visit the Liverpool showroom.

Frequently asked questions

Will Icare bed rails fit my existing bed?
The Icare rails, bed stick and blanket cradle are made for Icare beds and attach to the Icare frame. For an ordinary or other-brand bed, look at the bed sticks and support rails that slide between the mattress and base, and check the fit with the product page.
What is the difference between a bed stick and an over bed pole?
A bed stick fixes to the side of the bed and helps with sitting up and standing. An over bed pole stands on the floor and reaches over the bed, so the user can pull up from lying down or help with turning.
Can bed rails be fitted to both sides of a bed?
Yes. The Full Length Side Rail comes in left and right hand versions, and the slip-on rails can be positioned along either side. Whether to use one or two is a care decision for the person's health professional, as rails can also stop someone getting out.
