Bathroom accessories and long handled sponges

A long handled sponge lets you wash your back, legs and feet with less bending and reaching. It is one of the small bathing aids on this page, alongside a toe washer, hand showers, bottom wipers, non-slip mats and spare parts for commodes and shower chairs. Long handled sponge and toe washer

These aids share a plastic handle that is easy to grip and a flexible wire stem you can bend to the angle you need.

  • Bathing sponge: a long handled sponge with an absorbent head, 630mm overall, for showering or bathing.
  • Toe washer: a towelling pad for washing and drying between the toes, 690mm long, with a removable, washable pad and a spare.
  • Lambswool pad: a double thickness sheepskin pad for washing or applying powder.

Hand shower options

A hand shower lets you wash seated and aim the water where you need it. The standard hand shower fixes to your existing shower outlet, comes with a wall bracket and has an on and off switch. The hand shower and holder clamps onto an existing 32mm rail from our grab rails range, with a holder that swivels 360 degrees. Single and dual tap clamp-on versions fix to tap spouts with rubber reducing collars and are easily fitted and removed. Each hand shower is listed at 2m long.

Toileting aids

Bottom wipers hold toilet paper on a long handle for people who find reaching difficult. The Buckingham Easy Wipe ejects the tissue with a push button, the folding wiper folds into three, and the standard wiper is 325mm long. The P-Guard is a soft cup that deflects urine into the toilet for men who sit down, and it suits standard toilets and the raised seats in over toilet aids. A portable bidetette fits inside most toilet pans for personal cleaning.

Non-slip mats

The shower mat (540mm square) and bath mat (400mm by 700mm) are rubber with suction cups underneath. Healthdirect recommends non-slip mats in wet areas such as the shower and bathroom, and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) gives non-slip bathmats as an example of low-risk assistive technology; low-cost, low-risk items can generally be bought from a participant's consumables budget.

Accessories for commodes and chairs

Spare and add-on parts keep larger equipment in use. Match each part to your chair's brand and model:

  • Bowls and pans: Aspire, beige and economy commode bowls, and a bed pan with a frontal opening.
  • Pan carriers: stainless steel carriers for Juvo tilting or standard and wide shower commodes, and an Aspire bowl and pan carrier.
  • Rebotec parts: a pail, a splash guard, armrest cushions, a safety belt and cushion, headrests, an Augsburg seat kit and a seat without a hygiene opening.
  • Rebotec travel bag: a machine washable bag for carrying a Rebotec stool, which is listed in shower stools.
