Betadine antiseptics

For minor cuts and abrasions, Betadine Antiseptic Topical Solution comes in 15mL and 100mL bottles, and the Antiseptic Liquid Spray in a 75mL pack that Betadine says makes application less messy. Betadine Antiseptic Ointment, in 25g and 65g, is listed for common mild skin infections and for minor burns, cuts and abrasions. The 20g Antiseptic First Aid Cream adds blisters, scratches, grazes and minor scalds to that list.

Sore throat lozenges and gargles

Two lozenge types are stocked, and both are iodine free. Sore Throat Lozenges contain two antibacterial agents and come in Honey and Lemon (16 or 36) and Menthol and Eucalyptus (36). Anaesthetic Lozenges come in Honey and Lemon and in Berry, each in 16 and 36. Betadine Sore Throat Gargle comes concentrated in 15mL and 40mL bottles, diluted using the measure in the pack, or ready to use in a 120mL bottle that needs no dilution. A kit pairs a 15mL gargle with 16 anaesthetic lozenges.

Frequently asked questions

When should a sore throat be checked by a doctor?

Healthdirect advises seeing your doctor if a sore throat lasts more than a few days or is getting worse, if there is a fever over 38°C or large tender lumps in the neck, or if you or your child feel very unwell. It lists lozenges and throat gargles among over-the-counter options, and suggests asking a pharmacist or doctor which medicine suits.

How is Betadine Cold Sore Ointment used?

The 7.5g ointment is labelled for cold sores, and Betadine advises applying it at the first signs, usually a tingling or itching feeling. Healthdirect recommends not sharing cold sore creams, cups or towels, and seeing a doctor straight away if a cold sore is near or close to the eye.

Are Betadine lozenges sugar free?

The Anaesthetic Lozenges, in both Honey and Lemon and Berry, are described as sugar free as well as iodine free. The Sore Throat Lozenges listings mention that they are iodine free but say nothing about sugar, so ask the team to check the pack for you if sugar is something you need to avoid.
